Some of my most cherished memories involve visiting my grandparents, both of whom had sophisticated tast and were were well traveled. They collected Persian rugs, beautiful glassware, and unique and interesting furniture. I was fascinated by how much their home would change just by pulling up a rug, moving a chair, or rehanging a picture in a different room.
When I studied liberal arts at UW – Oshkosh, a woman had a choice of becoming a teacher or a nurse. At the time, I chose to pursue teaching; although I never really wanted to teach. My college roommates would marvel at how I would think outside the box in coming up with ways to decorate our dorm rooms. For example, by using black and white construction paper, I created the illusion of wallpaper for our bland concrete dorm room walls. I knew then that what I really wanted to be was to pursue creative design and decorating. Essentially, I wanted to stage a room or home to be presented in a way that was comfortable yet put together.
Following college, I got married, and together with my husband of 45 years, raised two sons. I always loved decorating our homes using the furniture we had combined with a few new items. Many friends and family members found my home decorating to be creative and impressive. This resulted in our first home being selected to be featured on the local Tour of Homes. Soon friends and strangers alike wanted design advice from me. Ultimately, this led to me starting my own decorating and design consulting company.
About seven years ago, the Milwaukee Journal ran an article in the home section involving decorating your home to sell. The concept of this process excited me and I thought it would be a nice fit for my existing business. I signed up for a class taught by the “Inventor of Home Staging”, Barb Schwarz.
Over the past two decades, I have developed relationships with many clients, businesses, suppliers, and wholesalers. I have continued my professional education and training by expanding my knowledge in color theory, fabric, furniture manufactures, textiles, and window treatments. I constantly surround myself with resources which enable me to provide clients with a exceptional design experience.
